Rich and poor, white and black

We visited Zanzibar in december 2007. The beaches were beautiful with white sand and endless blue ocean. Zanzibar is a big tourist attraction where you find hotels and restaurants everywhere. Our children loved it. They didn't think about the fact that there were only white people on the white beaches.

The sad thing was that it seams like all the money from the tourist-industry goes in the pockets of foreigners and that nothing comes back to the local people. We walked through the very pour village behind the hotels and felt really bad about it.
The contrast between rich and pour is overwhelming. Taxes from the tourist-industry might be a good idea to overcome these enormous problems.
